Rahman wins 2 Oscars; Slumdog bags 8 in all






It was a dream run at the Oscars for India. Slumdog Millionaire, British filmmaker Danny Boyle's rags-to-riches romance set in India, won eight awards, two of them by AR Rahman. Smile Pinki, a 39-minute short film in Hindi and Bhojpuri, directed by Emmy-nominated producer Megan Mylan also won an Oscar.

It is a low-budget movie made in the exotic slums of Mumbai, partly in Hindi, and with a no-name cast. But it won the hearts of moviegoers and on Sunday night, it won the heart of Oscar as well.

Slumdog Millionaire - the rags-to-riches story of a young man who overcomes the odds to rescue the love of his life and walk away with a fortune in a TV game show - was on the verge of sweeping the 81st Academy Awards by winning eight of the 10 awards for which it was nominated, including Best Picture and Best Director for Danny Boyle.

Boyle, who jumped into the air in the style of the Winnie the Pooh character Tigger - he said he promised his children he would do that if he ever won an Academy Award - thanked the people of Mumbai, looking at the Oscar and saying, "You dwarf even this guy."

In the night's closest contest - Sean Penn vs. Mickey Rourke for best actor - Penn won for his portrayal of real-life gay rights activist Harvey Milk in Milk. Penn, who previously won an Oscar in the same category for Mystic River in 2004, looked over the crowd of fellow nominees and Hollywood glitterati and said, "You commie, homo-loving sons of guns."

In his speech, Penn also made a plea for gay rights legislation and saluted fellow nominee Rourke "who despite a sensitivity that has brought enormous challenges . . . rises again."

Kate Winslet was named best actress for her portrayal of a former Nazi concentration camp guard who has an affair with a teenager in The Reader. Winslet, 33, had been nominated six times for an Oscar - the youngest person ever to reach that mark - before winning.

Winslet acknowledged fellow nominee Meryl Streep by saying she couldn't believe she was in the same category. She said she had rehearsed her Oscar speech since she was an eight-year-old girl standing in front of the mirror with a shampoo bottle. "Well, it's not a shampoo bottle now," she said.

But the night belonged to Slumdog Millionaire, which began its run at glory with the award for adapted screenplay, presented to Simon Beaufoy, who wrote the story based on the book Q & A by Vikas Swarup. Slumdog also won the cinematography award for Anthony Dod Mantle, an award that turned into one of the night's comic highlights when presenter Ben Stiller dressed in a Rasputin beard and dark glasses and mumbled his introduction, a parody of the famous Joaquin Phoenix non-interview on the David Letterman show.

The movie also took the awards for best song for Jai Ho - the tune that's played over the closing credits - best score, editing and sound mixing. It lost only sound editing to The Dark Knight. It have been nominated for two best song awards.

In the night's most moving moment, the late Heath Ledger was named best supporting actor for his role as The Joker, the menacing villain in smeared clown makeup in this year's box office champion, The Dark Knight. Ledger, who died last January of an accidental drug overdose, was the sixth person in Academy Awards history to be nominated for a posthumous Oscar and only the second - after Peter Finch in 1976, for Network - to win.

The award was accepted by Ledger's parents, Kim Ledger and Sally Bell, and his sister Kate Ledger. "This award tonight would have humbly validated Heath's quiet determination to be truly by accepted by all you here, his peers, within an industry he so loved," said Ledger's father.

As expected, Spanish actress Penelope Cruz overcame Oscar's reluctance to honour comedy and won the award as best supporting actress for her role as the fiery ex-wife in Woody Allen's Vicky Cristina Barcelona. "Has anybody ever fainted here?," Cruz asked as she accepted the award. "Because I might be the first one."

Dustin Lance Black's script for Milk won the award for original screenplay. Black had a message for gay and lesbian children: "God does love you and very soon, I promise you, you will have equal rights federally across this great nation of ours."

Man on Wire, the hair-raising documentary about Philippe Petit's 1974 tightrope walk across the two towers of the World Trade Center, was named best documentary. Smile Pinki, about a little girl with a cleft lip, won the documentary short Oscar. The Holocaust-themed Spielzeugland (Toyland) was named best live-action short. The Duchess won the Oscar for costume design.

The Oscars are saluting a mixed year in films: there weren't many classics in 2008, with the possible exception of the animated film Wall-E, the post-apocalyptic story about a robot that cleans up the world's leftover trash and was named best animated feature, as expected. (The wordless short La Maison en Petits Cubes, won the animated short award.)

The year's top-grossing movie, The Dark Knight, passed the $1-billion mark on Friday, making it No. 4 in top all-time earners (Titanic is still No. 1), and surveys suggested its exclusion from the nominees for best picture would hurt the TV audience.

The top earner among the nominated films is The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, the only one that has grossed over $100 million (and garnered 13 nominations, second only to the record 14 scored by All About Eve and Titanic). But the movie itself - which won Oscars for art direction, makeup and visual effects - did not become a talking point: you never saw an op-ed article decrying the trend to aging backwards.

The movie everyone was discussing was Slumdog, a $15-million melodrama that is also approaching $100 million in box office revenue and is being credited with helping increase tourism to Mumbai: one tour operator has reported sales were up 25 per cent since the movie's release, raising the spectre that, among hip travellers, Indian slums are the new black.

Eighty-two-year-old Jerry Lewis won the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award for his work raising money to help fight muscular dystrophy. The award is typically given to performers who haven't actually won an Oscar, but maybe should have.

Coming off a year of low-level glitz - the threat of a writers' strike last year caused the cancellation of several fancy Hollywood parties and the broadcast had the lowest ratings ever - the Oscars went for an overhaul this year, naming Hugh Jackman as the host.

Jackman, the co-star of the big-hat-no-cattle romantic epic Australia, is also an accomplished song-and-dance man, but in the past, it has been the songs and dances that everyone hated about. However, at a time of economic crisis, when too much celebration might be viewed as bad taste Jackman performed a cleverly low-budget opener saluting the best picture films (featured guests: The Craigslist Dancers).

At any rate, the movie business seems immune, at least so far: attendance in 2009 is up by 20 per cent and January grosses broke the billion-dollar mark for the first time ever.

Oscar fever hits India with Rahman and Pookutty

Los Angeles (PTI): As the Oscar fever catches up, expectation are high among Indians that music maestro A.R. Rahman, who has bagged three nominations for Slumdog Millionaire, will bring home the coveted trophy.

Smile Pinki and The final Inch are two other films with strong Indian connections vying for the Academy glory.

The 43-year-old, who has already pocketed a Golden Globe and BAFTA, is nominated for Best Original Score and Best Original Song for his numbers Jai ho and O saya.

In the original score category, Rahman faces competition from Alexandre Desplat (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button), James Newton Howard (Defiance), Danny Elfman (Milk) and Thomas Newman (WALL-E).

The Indian composer is pitted against Peter Gabriel and Thomas Newman (Down to earth from WALL-E) in the original song category. Gulzar has penned the lyrics of Jai ho and Mathangi 'Maya' Arulpragasam aka M.I.A. for O saya.

It is also a tryst with destiny for Indian sound technician Resul Pookutty, who is vying for an Oscar with his colleagues Ian Tapp and Richard Pryke for sound mixing in Slumdog Millionaire. Pookutty faces challenge from The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, The Dark Knight, WALL-E and Wanted.

The Indian technician recently won a BAFTA and Cinema Audio Society (CAS) awards for best sound mixing. He is the first Indian to win the CAS award.

Boyle's Mumbai-based saga about a slumdweller's journey to fame and fortune, is generating equal hype in India with its predominant Indian cast and crew.

Other than Rahman and Pookutty, the film is fighting in six categories including the Best Picture, Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay.

With 13 nominations, Brad Pitt-starrer The Curious Case of Benjamin Button is the biggest threat to the film.

Boyle and Slumdog Millionaire are the favourite at the Oscars to win the Best Film and the Best Director trophy.

The film is pitted against The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Frost/Nixon, Milk and The Reader in the Best Picture category.

While the British director will have to fight it out with David Fincher The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Ron Howard Frost/Nixon, Gus Van Sant Milk and Stephen Daldry The Reader.

However, Indian enthusiasm is not just limited to Slumdog Millionaire, two documentaries Smile Pinki and The Final Inch, are also in the Oscar race in Documentary (Short) category.

Smile Pinki is a 40-minute documentary that depicts the story of Pinki Sonkar, an eight-year-old girl from Mirzapur whose face cleft lip made her a social outcast.

Made in Bhojpuri and Hindi, the film has been directed by Emmy-nominated producer Megan Mylan.

Irene Tylor Brodsky's 38-minute documentary The Final Inch captures the struggle of polio field workers as they travel from village to village to administer polio drops under the polio eradication programme of India.

The other hopeful at the Oscars is British actress Kate Winslet, who is vying for the Best Actress honours for her role in the Nazi prison drama The Reader. The actress has been unlucky so far despite earning five nominations earlier.

Winslet is facing challenge from Oscar veteran Meryl Streep with Doubt. Streep holds the record for being the highest nominated actress with 15 nominations and two awards. The other contenders in the Best Actress category are

Anne Hathaway Rachel Getting Married, Angelina Jolie The Changeling and Melissa Leo Frozen River.

In the Best Actor category the odds are high for comeback star Mickey Rourke to win the trophy for his role in The Wrestler. However, with his gay politician act Sean Penn might just upset Rourke's chances.

Brad Pitt's act in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button as a man who ages backward can not be ruled out from the race for the coveted trophy.

The other two contenders in this category are Richard Jenkins in The Visitor and Frank Langella in Frost/Nixon.

Late actor Heath Ledger is the most favourite to win the honours for the Best Supporting Actor for his dibolic act as The Joker in the Batman flick The Dark Knight.

The other contenders in this category are Josh Brolin in Milk, Robert Downey Jr in Tropic Thunder,Philip Seymour Hoffman in Doubt and Michael Shannon in Revolutionary Road.

Spanish actress Penelope Cruz is the strongest contenders for Best Supporting Actress award for her role in Vicky Cristina Barcelona. It is a second nomination for Cruz. The other contenders in this category are Taraji P. Henson for her role as Brad Pitt's mother in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Viola Davis for her role in Doubt and Marisa Tomei The Wrestler.

This year will also mark the presence of three Indian child actors--Azharuddin and Rubina of Slumdog Millionaire and Pinki Sonkar of Smile Pinki at the Oscars.

After all those mindless action mass masalas dished out in the recent past, debutant director Susindhran's Vennila Kabbadi Kuzhu is refreshingly fresh and innovative.

The film has a tight script but does not break new ground, nor does it tell a dramatically different story. But what it does have is a very ‘clean’ screenplay with all the typical elements of a good sports film in place.

The Kabbadi coach played by Kishore, may be unconventional from what the actor has played so far. But as an inspiring coach who can make a bunch of guys from a small town forget their differences and play as a team is a revelation. The first rule Mr. Coach teaches his boys is to fight against all odds, religion and rejects in life to triumph in the end.

In fact, Vennila Kabbadi Kuzhu has traces of Director Shimit Amin’s Chak De India with Tamil nativity and a game that is hugely popular in rural Tamilnadu. There’s a set-up, a build-up and truly stunning twist in the climax. The story is executed neatly with the right elements in place and hence the film works perfectly.

In fact, the plot and the screenplay of Vennila Kabbadi Kuzhu is a no-brainer, it is designed to be a crowd-pleaser from the very word go — there’s the basic underdog story at the core, there is soft romance ( Vishnu and Saranya) thrown in, pleasing and melodious songs and an excellent background score (debutant V. Selvaganesh). On the downside the first half is a bit slow and predictable, the Thiruvizha scenes and the milieu, looks familiar and has traces of some recent films

How can you not root for an underdog team of simple, uneducated group of youngsters who are ridiculed by their respective families? Vennila Kabbadi Kuzhu is a compelling film to watch and much of its charm lies in the fresh lead pair, the bunch of simple villagers who are so lovable and endearing. The comedy track is part of the film and is thoroughly enjoyable like the newly married pencil thin guy who gorges Parottas by the dozens.

Kishore is the scene stealer and has done a neat job very convincingly. New face Vishnu is promising as he gets his emotions correct. Saranya is cute and her expressive eyes say it all. All the new guys in the Kabbadi team are simply too good.

On the whole, this film will surely keep you glued to your seat because the match scenes look real and edge of the seat. It’s a sports film in the true spirit and if even if you are not a fan of Kabbadi game, it’s unlikely that the film will bore you because it is fast paced with a racy lead to an unexpected and stunning climax.

In short, go for it !

How do terrorists who know they’re being monitored by the U.S. National Security Agency (NSA) communicate with one another? Whenever I get the opportunity to interview people in the intelligence community, I always ask this question. One of the more interesting ways, I once learned, was that some terrorists were using the blogging software WordPress.

There’s a feature on WordPress that allows one blogger to write a draft of something which he/she then “saves as draft” but doesn’t publish. Along comes a second blogger, with proprietary access to the WordPress account, who then reads the draft written by the first blogger (in this case, terrorist), erases those words, and types his/her own message, which is then also saved as a draft. At first, the NSA had a hard time accessing the WordPress system. But then they did. For obvious reasons, I was not told how.

As for me, I talk to my sources on Skype, a software program that allows users to make telephone calls over the Internet for free. The headset you need costs about $59. It is common knowledge that the NSA can’t hack into Skype, which is why it’s a popular tool for anyone who worries, with good reason, that the NSA might be listening in on them — journalists, whistleblowers, and terrorists alike.

Apparently not for long. Internet technology reporter Lewis Page writes in The Register that a source at the Counter Terror Expo in London says, “America’s super secret National Security Agency (NSA) is offering ‘billions’ to any firm which can offer reliable eavesdropping on Skype IM and voice traffic.”

But maybe, just maybe, the NSA and Skype are already in bed together, and the billion-dollar offer being made is just another way to keep the journalists, whistleblowers, and terrorists talking. What better place for the spreading of disinformation than the Counter Terror Expo — in London, no less. Dr. Moshe Yudkowsky believes this may in fact be the case. A physicist and speech technology expert who writes for emerging technology giant O’Reilly.com, Yudkowsky cites a bizarre case in Hungary in March 2007 to make his point.

That’s when a then-Hillary Clinton presidential campaign staffer, who recently left a job at the NSA, was arrested on espionage charges. Hungarian police had examined the staffer’s briefcase and found a transcript between the head of the Hungarian police, a man named Laszlo Bene, and the head of the police in Brussels, Belgium, a man named Stefan Feller. The Clinton staffer confessed to eavesdropping, which in turn produced the transcript of the conversation between the two police chiefs.

But the eavesdropping process, Yudkowsky explains, was far from what you might expect. There was no “bug” hidden in a vase under a mantelpiece or stuck to a lamp. Instead, the “bug” was in the form of the already existing microphone on the Hungarian police chief’s computer. The police chief — like journalists, whistleblowers, and terrorists — also used Skype to communicate. Yudkowsky explains:

Sources in the Hungarian police department revealed that the background traffic associated with running Skype on a personal computer provides an ideal method to hide the transfer of data from an individual’s computer without the owner’s knowledge or consent. Skype can “turn on a computer’s microphone on command,” said a highly placed source, “and no one will be the wiser.” The data are routed to servers that use speech recognition to look for suspicious phrases. Furthermore, algorithms can use the sound of keyclicks to guess at which keys are being struck, which allows anyone listening to determine not only what is being said but what is being typed.

Immediately after the bust, the European Commission opened an investigation. Alain Brun, the head of data protection at the Commission, told reporters, “The suspect [i.e., Clinton staffer] worked at the U.S. National Security Agency, where he learned of an agreement between Skype and Echelon to enable a ’spy’ mode on all Skype products.” What has yet to be explained is: What did Hillary Clinton’s staffer need this information for? And where has this former Clinton staffer gone?

Dr. Yudkowsky found a source at Dean Witter who believes the Skype-NSA-as-bedfellows idea could explain how Skype has been making money. After all, its users are able to use it for free. “Outside payments by government agencies would explain how Skype can hope to make a profit,” the source told Dr. Yudkowsky. “Otherwise the purchase of Skype by eBay [in 2005] still doesn’t make sense.”

Maybe the NSA has spent its “billions” already, after all.

CNBC correspondent Nick Santelli, in a rant heard round the world, encapsulated what many conservatives and apolitical observers have been thinking: the Obama economic policies are making things worse, not better. “The government is promoting bad behavior!” Santelli declared. By bailing out the irresponsible (e.g., home buyers, banks, auto companies) and continually tinkering with major sectors of the economy, the Obama administration, according to Santelli (and other observers), has embarked on a misguided course which ultimately threatens the fabric of our free-market system.

Conservative media and economists have been sounding the alarm for some time. But now even the network news shows are noticing that the Obama economic policies are going over like a lead balloon.

It is getting harder to ignore the facts. Fred Barnes writes:

Obama the market killer. The Dow opened at 8281.22 on the morning of Obama’s inauguration. Today it opens at 7465.95. That’s a vote of practically no confidence in Obama’s strategy for reviving the economy. The numbers were worse on the biggest days of the Obama presidency. The Dow fell 332.13 points on inauguration day, 381.99 points on the day Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner announced step two in the bank bailout, and 297.91 points when the president signed the stimulus bill three days ago. Financial markets are a bet on the future. The market’s view is that an Obamanomics-driven economy looks grim.

Today was more of the same as the price of gold hit the $1,000 mark and the stock market plunged close to 7300. It seems the Obama administration has picked up just where the Bush administration left off. The markets are once again exhibiting a lack of confidence in the U.S. economy and downright fear about the impact of the administration’s policies.

From a political standpoint, the idea that we should bail out irresponsible home buyers or incompetently run auto companies is proving to be very unpopular. Rasmussen polling revealed that 64% of Americans oppose further car company bailouts and only 38% back the president’s mortgage bailout plan.

The president then has a two-fold problem. First, the economy is worsening. By seizing the tiller with a series of rescue plans (crafted and approved almost exclusively by Democrats) and promising he will “save” millions of jobs (the precise figure keeps shifting) he and his Democratic allies in Congress now “own” the economy and will be held responsible for the progress of the recovery. Second, the very policies which they intend to implement are proving to be unpopular both on Wall Street and on Main Street.

இலங்கை வரலாற்றில் தடம்பதித்த இன வன்முறைகள்

எமது நாட்டில் இனக்குரோதம் சுதந்திரத்தின் பின் விஸ்வரூபம் எடுத்துள்ளது. இதற்குப் பொருளாதார ரீதியான காரணிகள் சிறிதளவே செல்வாக்குச் செலுத்தியுள்ளன.

பல இனங்கள் வாழும் இலங்கை போன்ற நாடுகளில் இனரீதியான பிரச்சினையின் தீவிரத்திற்குக் கடந்தகால அனுபவங்களை வெளிக்காட்டும் வெறுப்பான சம்பவங்களைக் கொண்ட வரலாறே காரணமாக இருந்துள்ளது என்பது தெளிவு.




காலத்துக்குக் காலம் மேற்கொள்ளப்பட்ட அகிம்சாவாதிகளின் போராட்டங்களினால் கிடைத்த கசப்பான அனுபவங்கள் மற்றும் ஏமாற்றங்கள், ஒதுக்குமுறைகள், ஒடுக்குமுறைகள் போன்றவற்றை வெளிக்காட்டிய வரலாறு இலங்கையின் தமிழர் தாயகப் போராட்டத்தைத் தீவிரப்படுத்திக்கொண்டு செல்வதில் பெரும்பங்களிப்பைச் செலுத்தியுள்ளன. இதனை வரலாறு மற்றும் அரசியல் ஆய்வாளர்கள் ஏற்றுக்கொண்டுள்ளனர்.

மகாவம்சத்தை எழுதிய மகாநாமர், தன் இனம் (சிங்களவர்), தன்மதம் (தேரவாத பௌத்தம்), தன்மொழி (சிங்களம்) என்பனவற்றின் மீது கொண்ட உயர்ந்த பற்றுக்காரணமாக, பக்கச்சார்பான கருத்தை இந்நூலின் மூலம் வெளியிட்டுள்ளார். இவை மறுக்கமுடியாத உண்மை. எனவேதான், தான் சார்ந்த இனம், மதம், மொழி என்பனவற்றை உயர்வாகக் காட்டிய அதேவேளை, தமிழர்கள் தொடர்பான உண்மைக்குப் புறம்பான தகவல்களைக் கொடுத்து அவர்களைப் புறந்தள்ளி சிங்களவர்களை உயர்வாகக் காட்ட முற்பட்டுள்ளார்.

அதுமட்டுமல்ல, குறித்த காலத்தில் வாழ்ந்த ஏனைய மக்களின் மதம், மொழி, பண்பாடு தொடர்பான தகவல்களைத் திரிபுபடுத்தி உண்மைக்குப் புறம்பாகக் காட்டியுள்ளார். அதாவது, கி.மு. 247 இல் பௌத்தம் இலங்கைக்குக் கொண்டுவரப்பட்ட பின்னர்தான் இங்கு வாழ்ந்த மக்கள் நாகரிகமடைந்தனர் என்ற கருத்துப்படக் கூறியுள்ளார். அக்காலத்தில் காணப்பட்ட ஏனைய மதங்கள் தொடர்பான தகவல்களை மறைத்து தேரவாத பௌத்த மதம் தொடர்பான தகவல்களை முதன்மைப்படுத்தியுள்ளார்.

பௌத்த மதத்தில் தேரவாதம், மகாஜனம் எனும் இரண்டு பிரிவுகள் காணப்படுகின்றன. மகாவிகாரையை மையமாகக்கொண்டு வளர்க்கப்பட்ட, தான்சார்ந்த தேரவாத பௌத்த பிரிவு பற்றிச் சிறப்பித்து மகாநாமதேரர் குறிப்பிட்டுள்ளார். அபயகிரி விகாரையை மையப்படுத்திய மகாஜன பௌத்த பிரிவு பற்றியோ, ஏனைய மதங்கள் பற்றியோ உண்மையான தகவல்களை அவர் மறைத்து விட்டார்.

இதேபோன்றுதான் தமிழ் மன்னன் எல்லாளன் என்பவருக்கும் துட்டகைமுனுவுக்குமிடையில் நடைபெற்ற அரசியல் ரீதியான ஆதிக்கப் போராட்டத்தைத் தமிழருக்கும் சிங்களவருக்குமிடையில் நடைபெற்ற இனப்போராட்டமாக மகாநாமதேரர் காட்டியுள்ளார். உண்மையில், கி.பி. 15 ஆம் நூற்றாண்டின் இறுதிவரை இந்த நாட்டில் இன, மத, மொழி அடிப்படையிலான போராட்டங்கள் இடம்பெற்றதற்கான வரலாற்றுச் சான்றுகள் கிடைக்கவில்லை என்று கூறிக் கொள்ளலாம்.

துட்டகைமுனுவுக்கும் எல்லாளனுக்கும் இடையில் பெரும் யுத்தம் ஒன்று நடைபெற்றதாகவும், அதில் ஏராளமான தமிழர்கள் கொல்லப்பட்டதாகவும் மகாவம்சம் தகவல்களைத் தருகின்றது. பேராசிரியர் பி.புஸ்பரட்ணம் போன்ற வரலாறு, தொல்லியல் துறைசார் ஆய்வாளர்கள், இந்த யுத்தம் இன, மத, மொழி ரீதியாக நடந்ததற்குச் சான்றுகள் இல்லை என்றும் மாறாக அரசியல் ஆதிக்கமே பிரதானமாக இருந்ததென்றும் காட்டுகின்றனர். எனவே, இனரீதியான வன்முறைகள் 1915 இன் வரை நடைபெற்றதாகத் தெரியவில்லை. அரசியல் ரீதியான ஆதிக்கமே காலத்துக்குக் காலம் யுத்தங்கள் நடைபெறப் பிரதானமான காரணமாக இருந்தன என்பது நோக்கத்தக்கது.

1833 இல் ஆங்கிலேயரால் சட்டசபை முறை அறிமுகப்படுத்தப்பட்டது. 1835 இல் அரசாங்க மொழி பெயர்ப்பாளராக இருந்த சிங்களவர் ஒருவர் மற்றும் தமிழர், பறங்கியர் இனங்களில் தலா ஒருவர் வீதம் மொத்தம் மூன்று உறுப்பினர்கள் இனரீதியில் நியமிக்கப்பட்டனர். இனரீதியான நியமனங்கள் 1835 ஆம் ஆண்டுதான் முதன்முதலாக இலங்கையில் அறிமுகப்படுத்தப்பட்டதென்பது மற்றோர் முக்கிய விடயமாகும். இந்தச் சட்டசபையில் பல்வேறு மாற்றங்களை மேற்கொள்ளவேண்டித் தொடர்ச்சியாகப் போராட்டங்கள் நடத்தப்பட்டன.

இனரீதியான பிரதிநிதித்துவத்தின் ஆபத்தினை உணர்ந்ததாலோ என்னவோ, 1910 இல் பிராந்திய பிரதிநிதித்துவத்தினை இலங்கையர் கோரலாயினர். இக்கோரிக்கையினை ஆங்கிலம் கற்ற வகுப்பினர் மேற்கொண்டனர். இதற்காக அகிம்சைப் போராட்டங்களையும் கிளர்ச்சிகளையும் அவர்கள் நடத்தினர். 1833 இல் கொண்டுவரப்பட்ட அரசியல் யாப்பில் திருத்தங்கள் கோரி தொடர்ச்சியாக ஆங்கில அரசாங்கத்திற்கு எதிராகக் கிளர்ச்சிகளில் ஈடுபட்ட காலம். 1910 -1915 இல் இக்கிளர்ச்சி தீவிரமடைந்திருந்தது. 1915 இல் பௌத்த மத ஊர்வலம் ஒன்றை நடத்தும் போது குறிப்பிட்ட கம்பளை முஸ்லிம் பள்ளிவாசலைக் கடக்கும் சந்தர்ப்பத்தில் 100 யார் தூரத்துக்கு எந்தவித ஆரவாரமும் இன்றிச் செல்ல வேண்டுமென்ற உயர்நீதிமன்றத் தீர்ப்புக்கு மதிப்பளிக்காது ஊர்வலத்தில் ஈடுபட்ட பௌத்த சிங்களவர் செயற்பட்டுக் கொண்டனர். இதனால், இந்திய முஸ்லிம்களுக்கும் சிங்களவர்களுக்குமிடையே மோதல்கள் வெடித்தன.

ஏற்கனவே முஸ்லிம்களுக்கும் சிங்களவர்களுக்கும் இடையில் சமூக, பொருளாதார ரீதியாகக் காணப்பட்ட போட்டியானது இந்தக் கலவரத்திற்கு மற்றொரு காரணமாகவும் கூறப்படுகின்றது. எது எவ்வாறாக இருந்தபோதும், சமயம் சம்பந்தமான இந்த முரண்பாடானது முஸ்லிம்களுக்கு எதிரான வன்செயலுக்கு காரணமாயிற்று. இந்த வன்செயலினால், கம்பளையிலுள்ள முஸ்லிம்களின் கடைகள், சொத்துக்கள் அடித்து நொறுக்கப்பட்டன. கொள்ளையடிக்கப்பட்டன. இந்த வன்செயல் கொழும்பு, குருநாகல் போன்ற இடங்களுக்கும் பரவிக்கொண்டது. இந்த நிலையைக் கண்டு ஆங்கில அரசு அச்சமடைந்தது. இந்த அச்சத்திற்கு மற்றொரு முக்கிய காரணமும் இருந்தது. அப்போது முதலாம் உலக மகாயுத்தம் தீவிரமடைந்திருந்தது. இந்த யுத்தத்தில் பிரித்தானியா முக்கிய பங்கு வகித்திருந்தது.

இதனால் சிங்கள முஸ்லிம் குழப்பத்தின் பின்னணியில் அரசாங்கத்திற்கு விரோதமான சக்திகள் இருப்பதாக ஆளுநர் றொபட் தோமஸ் அச்சமும் ஐயமும் கொண்டார். இதனை அடக்க கடும் நடவடிக்கை எடுத்தார். ஏறக்குறைய நாட்டில் எல்லாப் பகுதிகளுக்கும் பரவிய முஸ்லிம்களுக்கெதிரான வன்செயல்களை அடக்க இராணுவச் சட்டத்தை (மார்ஷல்லோ) பிரகடனப்படுத்தினார். எவ்.ஆர். சேனநாயக்க அவரின் சகோதரர், டி.எஸ். சேனநாயக்க போன்ற பல சிங்களத் தலைவர்கள் கைது செய்யப்பட்டு சிறையில் அடைக்கப்பட்டனர். அதுமட்டுமல்ல, கலகத்தை அடக்க எடுத்த கடும் நடவடிக்கையினால் வில்லியம் பதிரிஸ் உட்பட பல சிங்களவர்கள் சுட்டுக் கொல்லப்பட்டனர்.

முஸ்லிம் சிங்கள இனமோதல் மூலம் அவர்களிடையே காணப்பட்ட உறவுகள் திருப்தியற்றனவாக மாறிக்கொண்டன. தற்போது இலங்கையில் தமிழர்களுக்கெதிராக மேற்கொள்ளப்படும் வன்முறையானது சிங்களவர்களாலும் அவர்களின் ஆட்சியாளர்களினாலும் காலத்துக்குக் காலம் கட்டவிழ்த்து விடப்பட்டன என்பது தெளிவானது. ஆனால், 1915 இல் இடம்பெற்ற முஸ்லிம் சிங்கள வன்முறையானது தாய்நாட்டவர்களுக்கிடையிலானதாக அமைந்த போதும் அவற்றினை அடக்கியவர்கள் அந்நியரான ஆங்கில ஆட்சியாளர்கள் என்பது இங்கு குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது.

எனவே, இலங்கையின் இன ரீதியான வன்முறையானது தமிழருக்கு எதிராக அல்லாமல் முதன் முதல் முஸ்லிம்களுக்கெதிராகவே நடத்தப்பட்டதென்பது குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது. சிங்களவர்கள், சிறுபான்மைத் தமிழர்களுக்கெதிராக இன்று மேற்கொள்ளும் இனவன்முறையின் முதற்படி 1915 இல் முஸ்லிம்களுக்கு எதிராக சிங்களவர்களால் நடத்திக் காட்டப்பட்டதென்பதும் சுட்டிக்காட்டத்தக்கது.

தனிச் சிங்களச் சட்டமும் தமிழர்களுக்கு எதிரான முதல் இனக்கலவரமும் 1956

இலங்கை சுதந்திரமடைந்த பின்பு சிறுபான்மையோர் புறக்கணிக்கப்பட்ட முதல் வரலாற்றுச் சம்பவம் 1956 இல் கொண்டுவரப்பட்ட தனிச்சிங்களச் சட்டமாகும். அப்போதைய பிரதம மந்திரி எஸ்.டபிள்யூ.ஆர்.டி. பண்டாரநாயக்க சிங்களம் மட்டும் சட்டத்தைக் கொண்டுவந்து கறைபடிந்த இலங்கை வரலாற்றை உருவாக்கினார். இதன் மூலம் தமிழ் மொழியையும் புறக்கணித்தனர்.

இதனை எதிர்த்து 1956 ஜூன் 5 ஆம் நாள் காலிமுகத்திடலில் உண்ணாவிரதம் இருந்த தமிழரசுக் கட்சியின் உறுப்பினர்கள் சிங்களமொழி மட்டும் சட்டத்திற்கு ஆதரவான குண்டர்களினால் மிகக் கடுமையாகத் தாக்கப்பட்டனர். தமிழர்கள் பலர் கொல்லப்பட்டனர். தமிழர்களுடைய சொத்துக்கள் கொள்ளையடிக்கப்பட்டு தீக்கிரையாக்கப்பட்டன. சுதந்திர இலங்கையில் சிறுபான்மை இனத்தவரான தமிழருக்கு எதிராக சிங்களவர் மேற்கொண்ட முதல் இனக்கலவரம் இதுவாகும். இதன் பின்பு இரண்டு இனங்களும் இரு துருவங்களாக ஒருவரை ஒருவர் சந்தேகத்துடன் நோக்கும் நிலை தொடரும் நிலை ஏற்பட்டுக்கொண்டது.

1958 இனக்கலவரம்

1957 ஜூலை 26 ஆம் நாள் தமிழரசுக்கட்சியின் தலைவர் எஸ்.ஜே. செல்வநாயகம் மற்றும் அப்போதைய பிரதமர் எஸ்.டபிள்யூ.ஆர்.டி. பண்டாரநாயக்கவுக்குமிடையில் ஒப்பந்தம் ஒன்று செய்யப்பட்டது. இது பண்டா செல்வா ஒப்பந்தம் என அழைக்கப்பட்டது.

ஒப்பந்தம் செய்யப்பட்டு 5 மாதங்கள் கடந்த பின்பு அது நிறைவேற்றப்படவில்லை. ஒப்பந்தம் தேங்கிக் கிடந்தது. இது ஒருபுறமிருக்க 1957 நவம்பர் சிங்கள "ஸ்ரீ' சட்டம் கொண்டுவரப்பட்டது. இதனால் தமிழரசுக்கட்சியினர் கடுமையான எதிர்ப்புப் போராட்டங்களை நடத்தியிருந்தனர். 1958 ஏப்ரல் 9 ஆம் நாள் விமல விஜயவர்த்தன தலைமையிலான குழுவினர் ஒப்பந்தத்தைக் கிழித்தெறியும்படி கோரிப் பிரதம மந்திரியின் இல்லத்தை முற்றுகையிட்டுக் கொண்டனர். இதனைத் தொடர்ந்து இந்த ஒப்பந்தம் கிழித்துத் தூக்கி வீசப்பட்டது. இதனால், நாடு முழுவதும் தமிழருக்கெதிரான இனக்கலவரத்தை சிங்களவர் ஏற்படுத்தினர். இக்கலவரம் 1958 மே 26, 27, 28 ஆம் திகதிகள் வரை நீடித்திருந்தது. இதனைத் தொடர்ந்து ஆயிரக்கணக்கான தமிழர்கள் அகதிகள் முகாமுக்குள் புகுந்துகொள்ள நேர்ந்தது.

தமிழாராய்ச்சி மாநாடும் தாக்குதலும்

1974 ஜனவரி 3 ஆம் திகதி முதல் 10 ஆம் திகதி வரை யாழ்ப்பாணத்தில் நான்காவது தமிழாராய்ச்சி மாநாடு நடைபெற்றது. இம்மாநாட்டில் பல வெளிநாட்டுப் பிரமுகர்களும் கல்விமான்களும் கலந்து கொண்டனர்.

1974 ஜனவரி 10 ஆம் நாள் மாநாட்டில் புகுந்த பொலிஸார் பெரும் தாக்குதல் ஒன்றை நடத்தினர். எந்தவித காரணமும் இன்றி தாக்குதல் நடத்தப்பட்டது. இதன்போது 9 தமிழ்ப் பொதுமக்கள் கொலை செய்யப்பட்டனர். இது மற்றொரு இனரீதியான ஒடுக்குமுறைத் தாக்குதலாகும். இது ஸ்ரீமாவோ பண்டாரநாயக்கா அம்மையார் பிரதம மந்திரியாக இருந்த காலத்தில் இடம்பெற்றது.

1977 இன் இனக்கலவரம்

ஐ.தே.க.வினர் ஆட்சிப் பொறுப்பேற்று ஒரு மாதம் கடக்கும் முன்னர் தமிழருக்கு எதிரான மற்றொரு வன்முறை கட்டவிழ்த்து விடப்பட்டது. யாழ்ப்பாணத்தில் இடம்பெற்ற களியாட்ட நிகழ்வின் போது பாடசாலை மாணவர்களுக்கும் பொலிஸாருக்கும் இடையில் மோதல் ஏற்பட்டது. இதனைத் தொடர்ந்து மூன்று மாணவர்கள் சுட்டுக் கொல்லப்பட்டனர். இதன் பின்னணியில் இரண்டு பொலிஸார் சுட்டுக் கொல்லப்பட்டனர். இச்சம்பவம் காட்டுத்தீ போல் பரவியது. 1977 ஆகஸ்ட் 17 இல் அனுராதபுர புகையிரத நிலையத்தில் வைத்து தமிழர்கள் தாக்கப்பட்டனர். இதனையடுத்து இனக் கலவரம் ஒன்று வெடித்தது.

இக்கலவரம் இரண்டு வாரகாலம் நீடித்தது. தமிழர்களின் உடைமைகள், உயிர்கள் பறிக்கப்பட்டன. சொத்துக்கள் தீயிட்டு எரிக்கப்பட்டன. இக்கலவரம் 1958 ஐ விட சற்று விரிவாக நடத்தப்பட்டது. மலையகத்திற்கும் பரவியது. இலங்கைவாழ் தமிழர்கள் கடும் இன்னல்களுக்கு முகம் கொடுத்ததோடு, இடம்பெயர்ந்தனர். இந்த துயரச் சம்பவங்கள் இலங்கைத் தமிழர் வரலாற்றில் ஜீரணிக்க முடியாதவையாகும்.

1981 ஆகஸ்ட் செப்டெம்பர் மாத இனக்கலவரம்

இதேபோன்று 1981 ஆகஸ்ட் செப்டெம்பர் மாதங்களில் தமிழருக்கு எதிரான வன்செயல்கள் கட்டவிழ்த்து விடப்பட்டன. ஐ.தே.க. அரசாங்க காலத்தில் இடம்பெற்ற இரண்டாவது இன வன்முறை இதுவாகும். அதாவது, ஜே.ஆர். ஆட்சிப் பொறுப்பேற்று நடந்த மற்றொரு துயரச் சம்பவமாகும்.

ஐ.தே.கட்சியின் சார்பில் யாழ்ப்பாணத்தில் மாவட்ட அபிவிருத்தி சபைத் தேர்தலில் போட்டியிட்ட தியாகராசா சுட்டுக் கொல்லப்பட்டார். அதுமட்டுமல்ல தேர்தல் பணிகளில் ஈடுபட்டிருந்த பொலிஸார் இருவர் வேறொரு சம்பவத்தில் சுட்டுக் கொல்லப்பட்டனர். இதனைத் தொடர்ந்து தமிழருக்கு எதிரான வன்செயல்கள் கட்டவிழ்த்து விடப்பட்டன. தமிழர் விடுதலைக் கூட்டணியின் காரியாலயம் உடைக்கப்பட்டு தீக்கிரையாக்கப்பட்டது. 96 ஆயிரம் புத்தகங்களுடன் கூடிய யாழ். நூலகம் திட்டமிட்டு எரிக்கப்பட்டது. தமிழர்களின் அறிவியல் பொக்கிசம் எரிக்கப்பட்டு நாசமாக்கப்பட்டதை எந்தத் தமிழராலும் ஜீரணிக்க முடியுமா?

யாழ்ப்பாணத்துக்கென நிரந்தர இராணுவ அணி ஒன்று நிறுத்தி வைக்கப்படுவது தொடர்பிலும் அதற்கு வழங்கப்பட்டிருந்த அதிகாரங்கள் பற்றியும் செய்திகள் பத்திரிகைகளில் வெளியாகியிருந்தன. அத்துடன், 1981 ஜூலை 28 ஆம் நாள் ஆனைக்கோட்டைப் பொலிஸ் நிலையம் தமிழ்ப் போராளிகளினால் தாக்கியழிக்கப்பட்டது. இதனைத் தொடர்ந்து புகைந்துகொண்டிருந்த தமிழருக்கெதிரான மற்றொரு வன்செயல் 1981 ஜூலை 31 ஆகஸ்ட் 1 ஆம் திகதிகளில் திட்டமிட்டு ஐ.தே.க.வில் செல்வாக்குமிக்கவர்களால் இந்த இனவன்முறை முன்னெடுக்கப்பட்டிருந்தமையும் நாம் நினைவு கூரத்தக்கது. கிழக்கு மற்றும் தென் பகுதிகளில் வாழ்ந்த தமிழ்மக்கள் தாக்கப்பட்டனர். மலையகத்திலும் திட்டமிட்டு தோட்டத் தொழிலாளர்கள் தாக்கப்பட்டனர். தமிழர்களின் சொத்துக்கள், உடைமைகள் சேதமாக்கப்பட்டன. இந்த இனவன்முறையினை அனுபவித்த தமிழர்களால் இதனை மறக்க முடியுமா?

1983 ஜூலை இனக்கலவரம்

1983 ஜூலை 23 ஆம் நாள் இரவு யாழ்ப்பாணத்தில் ரோந்து சென்ற படையினரின் வாகனத்தின் மீது நடத்தப்பட்ட தாக்குதலில் 13 இராணுவ வீரர்கள் கொல்லப்பட்டதைத் தொடர்ந்து மறுநாள் குண்டர்களால் இனவன்முறை மேற்கொள்ளப்பட்டது. இந்த இனக் கலவரத்தின்போது வெலிக்கடைச் சிறையில் தடுத்து வைக்கப்பட்டிருந்த 52 தமிழர்கள் கொடூரமான முறையில் கொலை செய்யப்பட்டனர். சிறைச்சாலையில் குட்டிமணி, ஜெகன், தங்கத்துரை உட்பட்டவர்களும் அடங்கியிருந்தனர். ஆயிரக்கணக்கான தமிழர்கள் அகதிகள் முகாம்களில் தஞ்சமடைந்தனர். கோடிக்கணக்கான பெறுமதியான பொருட்சேதம் ஏற்பட்டது. தமிழர்களால் என்றென்றும் மறக்கமுடியாத துயரச் சம்பவமாக 1983 ஜூலைக் கலவரத்தைக் குறிப்பிடமுடியும். இந்தக் கலவரத்தினால் இழப்புக்களைச் சந்தித்துக் கொண்டவர்களால் என்றும் இந்தக் கலவரத்தை மறக்க முடியுமா? 1983க்கு பிற்பட்ட காலத்திலும் பல இன ரீதியான தாக்குதல் சம்பவங்கள் வரலாற்றில் இருப்புக்கொண்டுள்ளன என்பதனை நாம் குறித்துக்கொள்ள முடியும்.

இந்தியாவைத் தொடர்ந்து தோற்கடிக்கும் சிங்கள இராஜதந்திரம்.

சுதந்திர இலங்கையின் முதல் பிரதமரான டி.எஸ்.சேனநாயக்கா, இலங்கை சுதந்திரமடைவதற்கு முன் 1942 ஆம் ஆண்டு இந்தியாவுக்கு விஜயம் ஒன்றை மேற்கொண்டிருந்தார்.

அப்போது பத்திரிகையாளர்கள் இந்தியா பற்றிய சுதந்திர இலங்கையின் வெளியுறவுக் கொள்கை எப்படி இருக்கும் என்று டி.எஸ்.சேனநாயக்காவிடம் கேட்டபோது அவர் பின்வருமாறு பதிலளித்திருந்தார்.

'விரும்பியோ விரும்பாமலோ (Willy-Nilly) இலங்கையின் நிலைப்பாடு எப்போதும் இந்தியா பக்கம்தான் அமையமுடியும்" என்பதே.

ஆனால், அவர் 1948 இல் சுதந்திரமடைந்த இலங்கையின் முதலாவது பிரதமரான போது இந்தியாவிற்குப் பாதகமான பாதுகாப்பு ஒப்பந்தம் ஒன்றை பிரித்தானிய அரசுடன் செய்து கொண்டார்.

அதன்படி இலங்கையில் திருகோணமலையில் பிரித்தானிய கடற்படைத்தளமும், கட்டுநாயக்காவில் பிரித்தானிய விமானப்படைத்தளமும் அமைக்கப்பட்டன.

இவ்வாறு சந்தர்ப்பம் கிடைக்கும்போதெல்லாம் இந்தியாவிற்கு எதிராக இந்தியாவின் எதிர்நாடுகளுடன் கூட்டுச்சேரும் போக்கு சிங்களத் தலைவர்களிடம் எப்போதும் உண்டு.

பங்களாதேஷ் விடுதலைப் போராட்டம் தொடர்பாக 1970 ஆம் ஆண்டு இந்தோ-பாக்கிஸ்தானிய யுத்தம் வெடித்தபோது அப்போதைய இலங்கைப் பிரதமராயிருந்த திருமதி.சிறீமாவோ பண்டாரநாயக்கா பாக்கிஸ்தானிற்கு அனுசரணையாக நடந்து கொண்டார்.

அதாவது, பாக்கிஸ்தானிய இராணுவம் சிவில் உடையில் இலங்கைக்கூடாக விமானப் பயணங்களை மேற்கொள்ள பிரதமர் சிறிமாவோ பண்டாரநாயக்கா வகை செய்து கொடுத்திருந்தார்.

இந்நிலையில் யுத்தம் முடியும் வரை இலங்கையை இராணுவ ரீதியாகத் தமது கட்டுப்பாட்டின் கீழ் வைத்திருக்க வேண்டியதன் அவசியத்தை பீல்ட் மார்ஷல் மனோக்ஷா அன்றைய இந்தியப் பிரதமர் திருமதி இந்திரா காந்தியிடம் வலியுறுத்தியபோது இந்தியப் பிரதமர் இராஜதந்திர வழிமுறையின் மூலம் இலங்கைப் பிரதமரை அணுகி கொழும்பிற்கூடான பாக்கிஸ்தானிய இராணுவத்தின் போக்குவரத்தைக் கட்டுப்படுத்தினார்.

டி.எஸ்.சேனநாயக்கா ஐக்கிய தேசியக் கட்சியைச் சேர்ந்தவர்.

சிறீமாவோ பண்டாரநாயக்கா சிறிலங்கா சுதந்திரக்கட்சியைச் சேர்ந்தவர்.

மேற்படி இரண்டில் ஒரு கட்சிதான் இலங்கையில் மாறி மாறிப் பதவிக்கு வருவதுண்டு.

மேற்படி இரு கட்சிகளும் சந்தர்ப்பம் வாய்க்கும்போது இந்திய எதிர்ப்பு நிலைப்பாட்டைத்தான் உலகரங்கில் மேற்கொள்கின்றன என்பது ஒரு வரலாற்றுப் போக்காய் உள்ளது.

மேற்படி இரு கட்சிகளுக்கும் அடுத்த பெரும் கட்சியாக இருப்பது ஜனதா விமுக்தி பெரமுன என்ற ஜே.வி.பி.யினர்.

இந்த மூன்றாவது கட்சியாகிய ஜே.வி.பி. மேற்படி இரு பெரும் கட்சிகளையும் விட அதிதீவிர இந்திய எதிர்ப்பு வாதம் கொண்ட கட்சியாகும்.

இந்த வகையில் இலங்கைத்தீவில் உள்ள மூன்று முக்கிய சிங்களக் கட்சிகளும் தெளிவாக இந்திய எதிர்ப்பு வாதத்தையும் அதன்வழி ஈழத்தமிழர் எதிர்ப்பு வாதத்தையும் தமது அடிப்படைக் கொள்கைகளாய் பின்பற்றி வருகின்றன.

ஆனால் இந்திய கொள்கை வகுப்பாளர்கள் சிங்கள ஆட்சியாளரை அணைத்து நடத்த வேண்டும் என்ற கொள்கையை எப்போதும் கொண்டுள்ளானர்.

சிங்கள ஆட்சியாளரை அணைத்து வைத்திருக்க வேண்டும் என்பதற்காக ஈழத்தமிழரின் நலன்களை பலியிடுவதில் இந்தியக் கொள்கை வகுப்பாளர்களுக்கு எப்போதும் கவலை இல்லை.

பிரதமர் இந்திரா காந்தி காலத்தில் கொள்கை வகுப்புக் குழுத் தலைவராக இருந்த ஜி.பார்த்தசாரதி சிங்கள ஆட்சியாளர்களின் கபடத்தனங்களை அதிகம் விளங்கி வைத்திருந்தவர் ஆவார்.

அவரைப் போலவே ஏ.பி.வெங்கடேஸ்வரனும் திறமை மிக்க இராஜதந்திரி ஆவார்.

இதில் முதலாவது சிறந்த இராஜதந்திரியாயிருந்த ஜி.பார்த்தசாரதியை அரங்கிலிருந்து அகற்றுவதில் முன்னாள் ஜனாதிபதி ஜே.ஆர்.ஜெயவர்த்தன வெற்றி பெற்றார்.

ஜி.பார்த்தசாரதி ஒரு தமிழன் என்றும், அவர் தமிழருக்கு சாதகமாகவே பேச்சுவார்த்தையில் நடந்துகொள்வாரென்றும் எனவே அவரை நீக்கினால்தான் தாம் பயனுள்ள முறையில் பேசமுடியும் என்றும் ஜே.ஆர்.ஜெயவர்த்தனா இந்திய அரசை வற்புறுத்தியதன் பெயரில் ஜீ.பார்த்தசாரதி 1985 ஆம் ஆண்டு அரங்கைவிட்டு அகற்றப்பட்டார்.

அத்துடன் ஏ.பி.வெங்கடேஸ்வரனும் கொள்கை வகுப்பில் புறக்கணிக்கபட்ட நிலையில் தனது வெளியுறவுச் செயலர் பதவியை 1987 ஆம் ஆண்டின் பிற்பகுதியில் இராஜினாமா செய்தார்.

மேற்படி இரு பெரும் இராஜதந்திரிகளும் அரங்கத்தில் இல்லாதபோது சிங்கள ஆட்சியாளர்களால் ஏனைய இந்திய இராஜதந்திரிகளை இலகுவில் ஏமாற்றுவது சாத்தியப்பட்டது.

ஈழத்தமிழருக்கு ஏற்படும் எந்தவொரு பாதிப்பும் இந்தியாவின் நலனுக்கேற்படும் பாதிப்பாய் இந்தியக் கொள்கை வகுப்பாளர்கள் விளங்கிக்கொள்ள வேண்டியது அவசியம்.

இந்திய இராஜதந்திர வட்டாரங்களுக்குள் காணப்படும் உள்முரண்பாட்டை சரிவரக் கையாள்வதில் சிங்கள இராஜதந்திரிகள் கைவந்தவர்கள்.

தொடர்ச்சியறாது 2,300 ஆண்டுகால நிறுவனமான பௌத்த மகாசங்கம் சிங்கள மக்களிடம் உண்டு.

எழுத்தும், அறிவும் கொண்ட பன்மொழிப் புலமைமிக்க, முற்றிலும் அரசியல் மயப்பட்ட ஒரு நிறுவனமாய் பௌத்த மகாசங்கம் உள்ளது.

பழைய வரலாற்று சித்தாந்தத்தினால் வற்றி இறுகிப்போயிருக்கும் இந்த பௌத்த நிறுவனம் தொடர்ச்சியாக இந்திய எதிர்ப்பு வாதத்தையும் தமிழின எதிர்ப்பு வாதத்தையும் காவிப்பேணி வருகின்றது.

இத்தகைய தொடர்ச்சி குன்றாத நிறுவனத்தினால் அரசமைப்புடன் கூடிய இராஜதந்திர பாரம்பரியம் 2300 ஆண்டுகளுக்கு மேலாய் பேணப்பட்டு வருகின்றது.

இலங்கையில் அரசும் பௌத்த மகாசங்கமும் ஒன்றிலிருந்து இன்னொன்றை பிரிக்க முடியாதவாறு இணைந்துள்ளவை.

இப்பின்னணியில் நோக்குகையில் சிங்கள அரசியல்வாதிகளின் இராஜதந்திரம் மிகவும் மெருகானதாய் இருக்க முடியும்.

பல கட்டங்களில் சிங்கள இராஜதந்திரம் இந்திய இராஜதந்திரத்தை மிகவும் இலகுவாகவே தோற்கடித்துள்ளது.

சிங்கள இராஜதந்திரமானது பலக்கோட்பாடில் நம்பிக்கை கொண்டதல்ல. அது தந்திரோபாயத்திலேயே நம்பிக்கை கொண்டது.

பெரிய இந்தியாவை அது பலத்தால் வெல்லமுடியும் என்று நம்பவில்லை.

தன்னை ஒரு மிகச் சிறிய அரசாக விளங்கிக்கொண்ட இலங்கை அரசு எப்போதும் தந்திரோபாயத்தின் மீதே தன்னை தக்கவைத்துக் கொண்டது.

இந்திய உபகண்டத்துடன் ஒப்பிடுகையில் இலங்கைத்தீவு 69 மடங்கு சிறியதாகும்.

இத்தகைய பிரமாண்டமான இந்தியாவுக்கு கீழ் தென்பகுதியில் உள்ள சிறிய இலங்கைத் தீவானது தன்னை 2,300 ஆண்டுகளுக்கும் மேலாய் இந்தியாவின் பிடியிலிருந்து தற்காக்க முடிந்துள்ளது என்பது ஓர் அபூர்வமான உண்மையாகும்.

இந்தியாவின் அரசியல் பிடிக்குள் நேரடியாய்ச் சிக்காது ஒரு சிறிய தீவால் 2,300 ஆண்டுகளுக்கும் மேல் தாக்குப்பிடிக்க முடிந்தமை சிங்கள இராஜதந்திரத்தின் திறமைக்கு ஒரு சிறந்த எடுத்துக்காட்டாகும்.

சில தற்காலிகமான பின்னடைவுகளுக்கு அநுராதபுர அரசு உட்பட்டிருந்த போதிலும் இறுதியில் சிங்களப் பௌத்த அரசு இந்தியாவிற்கு எதிராகத் தன்னை நிலைநிறுத்துவதில் இறுதிவெற்றியை இதுவரை ஈட்டியுள்ளது.

இப்படி ஒரு கூட்டுமொத்தக் கணக்கை பார்க்க இத்திய இராஜதந்திரிகள் தவறக்கூடாது. ஈழத்தமிழரைத் தோற்கடித்து இலங்கைத்தீவு முழுவதையும் சிங்களமயமாக்கிவிட்டால் இறுதியில் இந்தியாவுக்கு எதிரான எந்தவொரு அந்நிய சக்திகளுடனும் இலகுவாக கூட்டுச்சேரலாம் என்பதே சிங்கள இராஜநதிரத்தின் நோக்கு நிலையாகும்.

இலங்கைத்தீவு முழுவதையும் சிங்கள பௌத்த மயமாக்கும் முயற்சியில் கிழக்கு மாகாணம் வரை பாரிய வெற்றியை இதுவரை சிங்கள அரசு எட்டியுள்ளது.

தன்வாயால் கொள்ளக்கூடிய அளவு சோற்றை உண்பது போல் சிங்கள அரசு நாளும் பொழுதும் படிப்படியாக ஈழத்தமிழரை விழுங்கி வருகின்றது.

கடந்த 60 ஆண்டுகளாக இது விடயத்தில் உறுதியாக கொள்கை நிலைப்பாட்டுடன் சிங்கள அரசு, ஈழத்தமிழரை ஏப்பமிட்டு வருகின்றது.

இப்போக்கை இந்திய அரசு தொடர்ந்தும் அசட்டை செய்யுமேயானால் இறுதியில் இதற்கு முதற்பலியாகப் போவது தமிழகமும் தென்னிந்திய மாநிலங்களுமே.

பதவிக்கு வரும் சிங்கள கட்சிகளுள் ஒன்றான ஐக்கிய தேசியக் கட்சி, இந்தியாவுக்கு எதிரான மேற்குலக அரசுகளுடன் கூட்டுச்சேரும் கொள்கையைப் பின்பற்றி வந்தது.

மற்றைய கட்சியான சுதந்திரக்கட்சி இந்தியாவுக்கு எதிரான ஆசிய நாடுகளுடன் கூட்டுச்சேரும் கொள்கையைக் கொண்டது.

தற்போதைய இலங்கை ஜனாதிபதி மகிந்த ராஜபக்ச அரசாங்கம் இதில் இரண்டாவது வகையாகும்.

குறிப்பாக இந்தியாவிற்கு எதிரான இந்தியாவின் அயல்நாடுகளுடன் கூட்டுச்சேர்வதே மகிந்த ராஜபக்ச அரசாங்கத்தின் கொள்கையாகும்.

இது மகா ஆபத்தானது.

இலங்கையில் நிகழ்ந்து வரும் இன ஒடுக்குமுறையை வைத்துக்கொண்டு கொழும்பு அரசாங்கத்தை தம் கைக்குள் கொண்டுவர இந்தியாவின் எதிர் அரசுகள் முயன்று வருகின்றன.

இத்தகைய வாய்ப்பான நிலையைப் பயன்படுத்தி சிங்கள இராஜதந்திரிகள் ஒருபுறம் இந்தியாவிடம் தமது பேரம் பேசும் சக்தியை வளர்த்தும் மறுபுறம் இந்தியாவுக்கு அடிப்படைப் பலமான ஈழத்தமிழரை நாளொரு வண்ணம் பொழுதொரு மேனியாய் நசுக்கியும் வருகின்றனர்.

இவ்வாறு அரசாங்கத்தில் காணப்படும் அத்தனை வாய்ப்புக்களையும் சிங்கள இராஜதந்திரிகள் தமது சாதகமாக்கிக் கொள்கின்றனர்.

உதாரணமாகப் பார்க்கையில் 'தமிழ்ப்பயங்கரவாதத்தை" வெற்றிகொள்ள இலங்கை அரசுக்கு இந்திய அரசு ஆயுத உதவிகளைச் செய்ய மறுக்குமிடத்து தாம் இந்தியாவுக்கு விருப்பமில்லாத நாடுகளிடம் ஆயுதம் வாங்க வேண்டிய நிர்ப்பந்தம் உண்டு என்று சிங்கள ஆட்சியாளர் கூறி, இந்திய அரசிடம் இருந்து ஆயுதங்களைப் பெற்றுக்கொள்கின்றனர்.

இங்குள்ள கேள்வி என்னவெனில், யாரிடம் இலங்கை அரசு ஆயுதங்களைப்பெற்றால் என்ன அது தமிழரை அழிக்கப் பயன்படுத்தப்படுகின்றது என்பதேதான்.

எனவே, பாக்கிஸ்தானிடம் ஆயுதத்தைப்பெற்றால் என்ன? இந்தியாவிடம் ஆயுதத்தைப்பெற்றால் என்ன? அது தமிழரை அழிக்கப் பயன்படுத்தபடுகின்றது என்பதேதான்.

இது விடயத்தில் தனது இறுதி இலக்கை சிங்கள அரசு ஈட்டிக்கொள்கிறது.

மேலும், இலங்கையில் தமிழரை தோற்கடிப்பதன் மூலம் இறுதியிலும் இறுதியாக இந்தியாவை தோற்கடிப்பது என்ற இலக்கை நோக்கி சிங்கள அரசு முன்னேறுகின்றது என்பதே பொருள்.
